We understand things do not always go as planned. When acute illnesses like sinus infections, flues, urinary tract infections, headaches, yeast infections, etc. pop up we will do our best to make sure you get in to see Dr. Walters the same day. We will provide natural therapies to support your body’s ability to heal and address any imbalances that promoted you to get sick.
The symptoms of chronic conditions are due to longstanding imbalances. One imbalanced area causes a domino affect pulling other systems out of balance over time. Adaptive strategies and coping mechanisms of the body and mind accumulate, even if they no longer serve us. In medicine, the collection of symptoms and physiologic changes in the body due to these imbalances are given a name. At The Source Wellness Center we will not treat the name of your condition. We will treat you, the person who has the condition, and what led you to develop these imbalances. Dr. Walters will focus on the reason why you are having symptoms, not just the symptoms. The goal will be to restore normal physiology and health, not simply mask the symptoms. Below are some common examples of what we help women with.
In the U.S. 78% of autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Hashimotos hypothyroiditis occur in women. Statistically, 1 in 12 women will develop at least one autoimmune disease during their life. At The Source Wellness Center we focus on identifying and removing current triggers and addressing the SOURCE of why the immune system is malfunctioning rather than continually suppressing it. Dr. Walters can also work with you to help prevent developing an autoimmune disease.
While acne can be due to topical irritants to the skin, most cases of acne are due to internal imbalances. Waste elimination through the lungs, kidneys, liver, and intestines can be inefficient leading to irritating toxins being excreted through the skin. Hormone imbalances can alter the physiology of skin cells. Nutritional excesses and deficiencies can not only alter skin cells directly, but can affect the bacteria that live on the skin. Dr. Walters will determine what is causing the physiologic changes and the source of your acne.
It takes a great deal of energy to build a baby. There can be numerous factors that may be preventing you from getting or maintaining pregnancy. Stress, nutritional status, food sensitivities, adrenal and thyroid function, ovarian and uterine health, and mental/emotional health are a few of the areas that will need to be evaluated. Let’s not forget the perspective father. If his sperm health is preventing fertilization, the SOURCE of the poor sperm will need to be addressed. Dr. Walters will work with your partner and you to identify any obstacles preventing getting pregnant and will help you prepare your bodies for a healthy pregnancy.
A baby starts with two cells, one from mom and one from dad. Ideally we want to start with the two healthiest cells possible, free of accumulated toxins and nutritional and genetic imbalances. Through the human genome project and epigenetics we now know what we do in our lives affects how our genes are read, which genes are turned on or off, and most importantly that we pass this on to our children. In other words, your baby does not start with a clean genetic slate. Dr. Walters will work with your partner and you prior to trying to get pregnant to optimize your cellular and genetic health so you can have the healthiest baby possible.
The digestive tract has a major impact on our health. It breaks down and absorbs the nutrients the body needs to function. Most of our neurotransmitters, which affect mood and brain function, are made in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. About 80% of the immune system lines the GI tract. It is also a major route of detox and waste elimination. Stress, diet, toxicity, spinal misalignment, bacterial imbalances, and inflammation can all contribute to digestive disorders such as reflux, vomiting, gastritis, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, IBS, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, Crohn’s, celiac disease, gall stones, hepatitis, and abdominal pain. Imbalances in the digestive tract will cause symptoms in other areas in the body as well. Dr. Walters will work with you to identify obstacles, restore normal physiology, and help you regain your health.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune reaction that kills the cells that produce insulin. The cause of the autoimmune disease needs to be addressed to prevent other autoimmune disease from developing over time. With proper diet, exercise, and supportive therapies the amount of insulin needed and long term risks can be minimized. Many common diet recommendations for diabetics can contribute to tissue damage due to increased blood sugar levels.
Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle related condition where the cells in the body are resistant to insulin, causing chronically high blood sugar levels. The high insulin and sugar levels cause damage to nerves and blood vessels. Over time if not controlled there is a high risk of kidney failure, heart disease, blindness, peripheral neuropathy, fungal infections, wounds that won’t heal, and gangrene requiring amputation. Common medications like Metformin will slow the progression of the condition, but do not reverse it. Dr. Walters has helped many people with type 2 diabetes to reverse their condition without continuing to need medication.
Women can experience a variety of uncomfortable symptoms before and during their menses. Both physical and mental/emotional symptoms are due to physiologic changes occurring through this transition phase of a woman’s monthly cycle. Nutritional, hormonal, and structural imbalances can inhibit or exacerbate a woman’s physiology which can lead to or intensify these symptoms. Dr. Walters will work with you to correct these imbalances to reduce or eliminate your discomfort.
The endocrine system is one of the main regulators of homeostasis. The glands of the endocrine system, such as the thyroid, adrenals, and ovaries, are intricately connected. An imbalance in one gland or other organ system can lead to hormone imbalances, like dominoes. Nutritional status, immune function, stress, environment toxins, liver function, and every system in the body can be contributing factors. Often as one gland is tonified, another will display signs of imbalance. In its effort to save the previous gland, it too became imbalanced. As we pick one domino up, we become aware of the one that came before it.
Depending on your goals and health status we can provide bio identical, natural, or synthetic hormones to alleviate symptoms or we can pursue why you are not producing adequate hormones and pursue the SOURCE of the problem. If a gland has been removed or irradiated then taking hormone replacement is necessary because the body no longer can produce that hormone.
Our goal at The Source Wellness Center is gradual changes that are sustainable and health supporting. Dr. Walters will help you optimize what food you are eating, exercise habits, and balance the endocrine system. Imbalance in the endocrines can prevent weight loss even with healthy eating habits and exercise. Starvation diets and high doses of hormones are not sustainable or health supporting. Dr. Walters can speak from experience as someone who lost almost 100lbs and has kept it off for over 15 years.
